Six Delicious Ways To Enjoy Houmous

Are you even vegan if you don’t have a tub of houmous in the fridge at all times?

This delicious chickpea based dip is certainly a staple in my diet and I try to incorporate it into as many meals as possible. Below I’ve shared six ways to enjoy it, to hopefully provide you with some inspiration the next time you’re not sure what to do with your half eaten tub.

On toast

Spreading houmous on toast is such a great way to level up your snack game. The best part is you can spread it on as thick as you like, no judgement here! I love to add garlic fried mushrooms on top as the flavours compliment each other so well.

As a pasta sauce

This is probably my favourite way to use houmous and it’s especially useful if you’ve run out of pesto or sauce. Simply mix your flavour of choice into cooked pasta, with a little bit of the pasta water to turn it into more of a saucy consistency. In the image above I also added some nooch (nutritional yeast) for a cheesy tang, along with fried mushrooms and vegan bacon for an easy peasy take on carbonara.

With leftovers

You can often end up with leftovers from cooking and sometimes it’s hard to know what to do with them. If in doubt, reheat and add houmous! My favourite thing to do this with is lentil chilli, with added veggies for some extra goodness. So quick and yummy!

A vegan eating salad, groundbreaking, right? All jokes aside though, there is nothing wrong with a great hearty salad. It’s such a great way to get in lots of nutrients. They don’t need to be boring either, pictured above with my salad is falafal, couscous, houmous and bacon bites.

In wraps

Nobody likes a dry wrap, so why not add houmous in place of your usual sauce? It adds so much great flavour without making the bread too soggy. Pictured is my new favourite way to fold wraps, thank you tiktok!

As a dip

Okay this one is cheating slightly because it’s already a dip to start with, but that doesn’t take away from how good it is! Vegetables, salad, bread, chips, pizza, burgers, there’s literally no limit to what you can dip into it. The fact it is a much healthier choice than a lot of store bought condiments is just a bonus!
